Friends and Neighbors of Pleasantville

Pleasantville is a thriving little community with a diverse assortment of mythical creatures, monsters, yokai, cryptids, and just about anything else that could be classified as "spooky" or "creepy". It's a cozy place where everyone knows each other and talk of a new neighbor is very exciting- which sucks if you're Jill and hate being the center of attention. Here's a few friendly faces who you might see during your stay in Pleasantville.

Chuck

Chuck

A burly minotaur covered in shaggy fur, Chuck is a strong but silent figure who roams the boarders of Pleasantville. Every day, no matter the time or weather, you can see him lumbering around the fields. He serves as the town's protector and is quite good at his job. With a large set of horns and his favorite weapons slung on his back...whatever lurks outside the town knows better than to disturb the peace.

Maximus "Max" Litchfield

Max

A loud mouthed, vulgar, party animal of a Satyr who never left his frat days behind him. He owns a club in the local cemetery that everyone knows as the "Raveyard". In a sea of dancers, lights, and music, he can usually be found sandwiched between his two greatest loves; booze and women. Max claims to be a real smooth talker the ladies can't resist, but he's struck out more than he cares to admit. Currently shares a home with his cousin, Giles.

Gideon Griff

Gideon

A restless griffin who was something of an outcast in his flock. He was inquisitive and chatty much to the ire of his elders, spent more time examining prey than eating it, and only terrorized trespassers to lock them in the longest conversation of their lives. He left the flock when he was old enough to find his own territory and eventually ended up in Pleasantville. After seeing that the townsfolk had no reliable news source, he decided to start his own newspaper with a small group of locals and has been working hard to help the community ever since. He shows the mannerisms of both birds and cats and can suddenly become distracted at any given moment, mostly by sparkling objects, small animals, sudden movements, and lazar pointers. One look is all it takes to get the griffon absorbed and running off.

The Kappa Family

kappas

A large family unit of duck-like creatures. The Kappas are a hardworking group that operate the local spa/bath house located next door to their neighbors, the inn run by the Tanuki Family. They're known for their friendly service, warm atmosphere, and complimentary cucumbers. Though they are always busy with running a business, they're still Yokai at heart and thus, they love playing the occasional prank on other family members and even customers. The pranks in question are always super harmless and cause no damage to the participants, their health, or their property. Pictured here are Kiso (left), his wife Saru (right), and their daughter Ibi (middle). All kappas are named after ponds and rivers from their country of origin.

*A quick lesson on sexual dimorphism with kappas: Much like real world ducks, male kappas tend to have brighter, more intricate, plumage while the ladies have duller, more muddled, colors. Kappa chicks however (ducklings? kappalings?) have down that can range from yellow to brown regardless of gender. As they age and lose their baby fluff, their adult plumage will start to form. Kiso's design is loosely based on a Falcated duck while Saru's is based off a common Mallard.

wolf

Not a neighbor, but one night Jill saw some kind of dog out on the outskirts of town. She tried to approch it to see if it was lost or needed help but it ran off into the woods pretty quickly. She didn't have her phone on her at the time so she had the make a quick little sketch of it. It's probably nothing to worry about!
