Falling Stars Teaser (2025)

teaser25.2

Something of a teaser image for the Falling Stars story. Or at least, my best crack at it? It's messy and cluttered and has more editing than what I usually put into my work, but it was honestly kind of fun to cobble together. I don't have a whole lot written down story wise, so picking which lines to use was kind of a challenge. But I do have a few of my favorite ones in here, including one you guys have seen before.

The Buddy System

buddychart

The "Buddy System" of the Falling Stars story, it pretty much summarizes how the main quartet feel about each other during their travels with the strongest combos being Elliot and Seth's friendship and Lidia and Dave's pure, undeniable, hatred for each other.

For those of you who can't read my handwriting, the Buddy System goes as such:

  • Elliot - Lidia = Respects
  • Elliot - Dave = Complicated
  • Seth - Dave = Hate
  • Seth - Lidia = Scared
  • Lidia - Elliot = Devoted
  • Lidia - Seth = Nervous
  • Dave - Elliot = Crush
  • Dave - Seth = Nervous

Testing out some Lidia designs before I settled with her new look. I still find myself debating on going back to the more gargoyle like ears but idk.

Pride Stuff

2025

lidia_pride25

Lidia, my poor girl. She needs more attention/love and a design I don't change slightly every month.

dave_pride25

Dave is an interesting case compared to my other characters in regards to his orientation and identity, and it shows in his messy pride piece. In canon (and I swear I'll go into more detail about it at a later time) the race of people Dave is a part of usually don't lump themselves into a gender binary- mostly identifying as Xenogender- but Dave kinda likes the idea of being masculine and coming off as such. Dave is a lot of things and those definitions are always changing in ways both spiteful and purposeful. Regardless, I've added splashes of color from both Xenogender flags along side the Libramasculine tapestry.

ateam_25

Now, when I said on my page that "every month is pride month" I wasn't saying it to take visibility away from Disability Pride month but simply as a way to keep spirits up in these trying, frightening, times that totally doesn’t continue to plummet my nonexistent patriotism into the negatives. I think every month should also be Disability Pride month, and Black History month, and Sexual Assault Awareness month, and so on. I'd look like one hell of a hypocrite if I tried to sweep Disability Pride under the rug while also suffering from a disability myself, and dating someone with a disability, and having an army of OCs who are disabled in one way or another.

You get the gist.

And it's something that I hope to show more of in my stories and with my characters, especially Elliot and Seth who each have their own thing going on and have to fight twice as hard to be taken seriously in the world they live in. Elliot for her depression and her sex repulsion, and Seth for their lack of sexual desire and long list of physical and mental issues.

Fashion of the New Millennium (Art Rant)

fashion1fashion2

No better way to kill time and get more comfortable with drawing clothes than to do some research on fashion trends from differnt decades. Unlike with World of Our Own, which I'm always saying takes place in the 90s, and has a lot of colors and clothes to refelct that...I haven't really done the same with Falling Stars. I say that this story takes place between the 2000s-2010s but what have I said or shown you guys that gives off those vibes? It's all been space related or drizzled with mythology and angst. So this art rant is equal parts an exorcise and a time stamp.

From what I've been seeing during my image searches, early Y2K fashion choices weren't much of a dramatic step up from what was going on in the 90s (mainly layers upon layers upon layers, sweats and hoodies, grunge lite choices that can be seen in skate culture- a mix of minimalist and casual chic), however there seems to be more of an emphasis on cargo pants, tube tops, sleeker looking options, and clunky accessories aimed at women. Faru in particular loves all of the saturated colors, obnoxious patterns, and gaudy accessories from Claire's that make up the bulk of fashion for young teen girls. The Voyagers usually wear drab jumpsuits, maybe an equally dull colored jacket- single uniform-like garments that are all very practical at the cost of it being...boring, so it was only natural for Faru to be drawn to whatever the hell is going on in the girl's section of the department store. It's loud, and colorful, and cute, and nothing makes Faru happier than seeing how they look in floral printed cardigans and neon striped skirts. While Faru doesn't identify as female they can certainly appreciate everything the ladies get to wear, it looks so much better than those gross jumpsuits. It's normal to see them wearing colors brighter than the sun and showing off all of their cute little accessories they got from their latest trip to the mall (Faru would definitely be that kid who comes to school with their arms COVERED in Silly Bandz).

Elliot is far more down to earth when it comes to her choice in clothes, never anything too flashy or outfits that get dangerously close to being "cute" and "girly". That's just how it is with some tomboys and no amount of prodding from Faru or Kel will fix that. Being the youngest in her family she naturally ends up with most of her sibling's old hand-me-downs. And while some kids would complain about this arrangement and beg for something else, Elliot genuinely loves them. It's simple; her brothers are cool, their clothes are cool, and if Elliot wears them then that makes her cool by proxy- she's done the math, all the numbers add up. Yes, a good chunk of her wardrobe constantly gets her mistaken for a boy- but who cares? Maybe she likes looking cooler than the other boys and wearing clothes that don't bring any attention to her body, and if it causes people to misgender her than so be it. Also, you fucking know my girl would be rocking a pair of HEELYS, how could she not???

Lidia is in the same boat as Elliot more or less with her wardrobe consisting of *loose, baggy, clothes in a range of colors, patterns, and brands although she leans more on the athletic/hip-hop side of the fashion grid. Sweatpants, shorts, jerseys, headbands, tube tops- Lidia has a decent selection of sporty outfits to throw on at any given time for any climate. It's all super casual with a cool flair; function over form above anything else, which also means she doesn't really own anything more formal. Not that she's ever in a situation where she needs to be formal, that's more of a Star Gazer thing plus she would just feel a little out of place in frilly dress. Nothing makes her feel more confident than hitting the streets with her multi-colored sweatpants that make her purple scales pop and shirts that show off her muscles to any interested ladies.

The same preference of loose casual clothing can also be found with Elliot's **siblings- a trio of Beast folk with their own unique styles. Kody definitely dresses like a suburban white boy who only listens to gangster rap while Pepper is always dressed for a day at the skate park. Genderfluid Kel is a bit of an outlier with their more fashion foward mindset and closet being filled with a decent selection of clothes for men and women, although they tend to lean more on the feminine side most days. Tank tops with fun patterns/soft colors and long utility skirts are what they usually like to settle on but the eldest Pembroke sibling also looks good in a nice blouse or a simple V-neck shirt with a pair of dress pants.

*The Beast people avoid clothes that are tight and constrictive- being naturally bulky it's important for them to have a free range of movement, something that skinny jeans could get in the way of- so it's normal to see them in baggy jeans, skirts, loose shirts, and oversized outerwear. Beast folk typically don't wear shoes unless they're in an area where protective footwear is greatly needed (scorching sands, below freezing tundras, volcanic areas, places like that).

**All three of Elliot's siblings have received a slight update to their designs. Kody and Pepper just have their coat patterns changed a bit (and Pepper has a cochlear implant although it's easy to miss) but Kel has the biggest change- losing their smooth, glossy, mane for a more short and textured one.

The Dads

dog_dads

Introducing Cooper and Micha Pembroke; a dog-aligned Beast couple and Elliot's adopted fathers.

Yes. Elliot is a non-Beast child adopted by a Beast family. And while the world they live in has very mixed views on the adoption (with some neighbors even claiming that they only did it to fill the girl's head with pro Beast propaganda), it doesn't stop them from being a family. Elliot may not have fangs or claws like her siblings, but they love her regardless with all their heart and she misses them terribly during her travels around the country.

Cooper owns a local bakery and Micha is a history teacher.

The Siblings

beast_sibs

A trio of Beast kids of various alignments and ages who have been adopted by Cooper and Micha over the years. Their names are Kel (they/he/she) who is the eldest and is ususally put in charge when the adults are away, Pepper (he/him) the middle child who is a pretty chill guy but is hard of hearing, and Kodiac "Kody" (he/him) who is the second youngest and a bully to his sister. And of course, Elliot is the youngest and the only non-Beast member of her Beast family. The four of them have a typical sibling dynamic with each other filled with teasing, arguments, jokes that go a little too far, and rare moments of camaraderie (between Elliot and Kody at least).

Unlike Micha and Cooper, the siblings are only ever mentioned here and there by name and are rarely seen in the story.

Their designs have since been updated.

A Villain

lupus

One of the bad guys Elliot and Co. are trying to evade, and who I'm still trying to figure out design wise. Living in a universe where a small percentage of the population are animal people, I'm still wondering how far I'm going to lean into the animal aspect of it.

Until then, have some mock up sketches of Lupus (and my favorite line in the story), a bounty hunter hired to track down Elliot and bring her back to the main villain. He's a calculating but heavily sarcastic man who only takes his job seriously when his targets put up a fight and give him something of a challenge.

Lupus Expressions

lupus_heads lupus_heads2

More Lupus, with even more lines from the story. These are just little expression tests. Lupus is a pretty expressive guy, he likes to show off his teeth and flash innocent smiles. I'm not a furry artist by any means, so figuring out how to draw animal people and give them readable emotions that don't look too silly is still a challenge for me. But I do think I'm getting the hang of drawing him, if you don't count the inconsistent ear notches or shape/length of his snoot.

Dave's Secret

big_eyes

Dave is someone I haven't talked about all that much, even though he's one of my favorite characters to write.

And I did that on purpose...

I had planned to make an introductory comic that goes over the history of the Falling Stars world forever ago and...production on that is still in limbo. It was really just for the sake of introducing the three races that would populate Elliot's world. You've already seen Elliot in all her plainness, and Lidia and Lupus in their anthro furry glory, but the third race is best represented in Dave who comes from a race of super uncanny alien-like people with a design that plays on the "gray aliens" you see in some media. Their most unsettling feature is their eyes, which take up most of their faces and look rather...empty? Soulless? There's a reason his people are described as off-putting.

Village Boys

beast_boys beta_boys

A pair of Beast teens who appear in the Falling Stars story and are constantly butting heads with Elliot and Seth. Their names are Hunter (left) and Lucky (right) and aside from being best friends, they're also a couple.

Much like with Lupus, I'm still trying to figure out how animal I want the animal people to look or whether or not they should even have hair? It kind of gets in the way but that could just be my lack of skill saying that. Their designs are still being worked on and they'll get full body refs eventually, but I unironically like the beta design for Lucky where I somehow ended up making him look like Jerma.

HOLD ON THERE

Everything past this point will feature blood, gore, self-harm, and mentions of suicide attempts/thoughts. If these are topics you don't vibe with in any way, be it for personal reasons or just finding kids dealing with these situations uncomfortable, then I highly recommend turning back and looking at other pages in the Moon Room.

Or the hard work of some of my net neighbors :)

That Night (Blood and Self Harm Warning)

attempt
convo1 convo2 convo3

A moment from the story where Elliot and Seth talk about their scars and mortality, related to the "Past Reminders" image below.

Elliot suffers from depression but you'd probably never know with how hard she works at hiding it. Being a teenager with an okay life and a great family there was a huge chance that even if she was honest about what was going on, she wouldn't have been taken seriously. What did she know about being depressed? She was just a kid. She'd got nothing to be depressed about. Get off that damn phone and go outside.

Putting on an act was better than bothering her dads. What if they didn't listen? Or they stopped loving her? Or sent her away? She couldn't risk that. Being the only non-Beast member of her Beast family was causing enough problems as it was, bringing these thoughts and feelings out into the open would only cause their critical community to feel vindicated about their suspicions. So she shoves it down, goes about her life, and tries to ignore it. Until one night after a day of everything going wrong all at once, it all comes out, and she's not able to pretend anymore.

The attempt itself isn't talked about in detail anywhere in the story, it's only something that's mentioned in conversation between Elliot and Seth, but at this point Elliot and her family are fully aware of her depression and are taking steps to help. Since the incident she's become more vocal about her mental health and what's on her mind, even if it includes joking about jumping off a cliff or running into traffic.

Past Reminders

scars

Seth has been through a lot for someone so young and it can be seen most with the state of their body, which is riddled with scars of all shapes and sizes. Most of them are self-inflicted or came from a nasty fight -and it's easy to tell which ones those are- but then there are others that can't be explained; ones that are small and clean, old bullet wounds aiming for vital organs, a failed attempt to slit their throat. Seeing them always makes Elliot uncomfortable, especially when Seth describes everything that happened to them in gruesome detail and comes to the conclusion that they simply can't die. It's a bold claim to make.

The Gods have no favorites.

Everyone is destined to die.

But as time goes on and they start to find themselves in more and more danger...Elliot starts to wonder if Seth really is telling the truth...

Seth and Grounding (Blood Warning)

party_trick

So, I've mentioned before that Seth is kinda odd but I've never gone into how odd they are. Probably my most tortured character, Seth has a lot going on both physically and mentally. They're covered in scars that they like to nervously pick at, there's a voice in their head that's starting to get very hard to ignore, and of course there's their problematic grounding method that involves biting down on their hand so hard that they end up breaking almost every bone. It's okay though. Seth's body, somehow, is able to recover pretty quickly from any injury and soon enough, their hand is back to normal.

The sanity of anyone who sees this is another story though.
